Columbia High School was completed in 1966; we’re the 2nd class to graduate. Students were reassigned to Columbia from:
Southwest DeKalb
Avondale
Towers
Of course, there were also those insignificant Prefreshmen—8th Graders—who moved up from the nearby Elementary schools (Columbia, Toney, Wadsworth, Snapfinger, and others). (In those days, you were in elementary school from 1st through 7th grade; after that, you were in high school. Or the military…)
The classes of 1973 and 1974 have planned a combined reunion for this year. The committee have worked hard for this event and hope that, by combining classes, they will have more people, more fun, and keep costs down. Thus, they’re calling this the Columbia Reunion 2008 and hope to have between 200-300 participants.
The word gives the speaker a good feeling. It calls forth memories of friends and friendships, of triumphs, of success at having accomplished something. We’ve come together almost every five years since we graduated; some, particularly those on the decade, have been very big events while others have been more casual get-togethers. We’ve accomplished this, remarkably, without a formal class organization or dues.
