We use DOCMan, a Joomla component or plug-in, to upload and manage documents. You can share these types of documents to others through this Web site:

  • Text files
  • MS Word files
  • Portable Document File (PDF) documents
  • Image (JPG, GIF, PNG) files

DOCMan is an open-source document management and download system for Joomla. With this component, you can manage documents across categories and make them available for download.

Features

The main features of DOCman are:

  • Infinite categories and subcategories. The documents can be organized across custom categories and subcategories
  • Files can be hosted locally or on a remote server.
  • Access control. Documents can be assigned to specific user or to custom groups of users
  • Download counter and log. You can display a download counter per document and all the downloads can be logged (by user, IP, browser, date and hour)
  • Own search system. Documents can be searched by name and/or description. The search system integrates with Joomla! using an optional mambot
  • Anti-leech system. The built-in anti-leech system avoids direct linking to documents
  • Path protection. Real paths to documents are never displayed to users
  • Themes. The layout can be changed using custom themes

The Webmaster creates, modifies, or removes categories to the DOCMan component through the Joomla administration backend interface.

Upload from User Front-End

Registered users may upload documents to the Web site from the site front-end interface; this is the “usual” site seen by the public. Site administrators and the Webmaster may also upload documents from the admin backend interface.

  • Login to your Web site user account.
  • Click Documents.
  • DOCMan control links are displayed below the Document Categories in the Main Body element of the site.
  • Click Submit File.
  • DOCMan displays the terms & conditions governing file uploads, including the file types allowed.
  • Click Agree.
  • Click Browse in the Find File form.
  • Windows Explorer opens—navigate to the file on your computer that you want to upload and select it.
  • Click Upload File in the Find File form.

Assign to Category

All documents made available to view and download, whether restricted to members or for the general public, must be assigned to a document Category.

  • After you upload a file, DOCMan displays the File Description form.
  • Choose a Category for the document.
  • Fill in the Short Description and Keywords fields.
  • Click Save.

DOCMan displays a message confirming the addition of your document. Additionally, DOCMan sends you an e-mail confirmation.
